My name is
Louis Reichert I live in Walvis bay Namibia and I enjoy the
outdoors, 4x4, camping and fishing. Since I have been in the army from
1985 - 1987 I loved to live the outdoor life. I got my first 4x4 in May 2000 and
used it mostly for taking me to my favorite fishing spots. Not long after I got
my 4x4 I was introduced to dune driving by one of my friends and was totally
hooked. I started Sandtracks as a information sharing web site mid 2001. I got
contacted by Andre Durant which joined us on the Sandtracks web site and forum
in the beginning of 2002 and he wanted to join us on a dune drive on their
holiday here in June 2002. I arranged with some friends that we gave Andre and
his family a guided tour in the dunes on 29 June 2002. After this trip I started
thinking that I could maybe get paid to do my hobbies and thus Sandtracks
Adventures was born. My father then came up with the idea to optimize the use of
our vehicles we have in our ship's agency Express
Services to offer desert tours and a shuttle service under Sandtracks
as well.
Sandtracks
information web site
I started this site to document how I rigged up
my Drifter and all the trips and trails that I
have taken it on and sharing info and
experiences with fellow enthusiasts but in a more visual way than on a
forum. I want you to make
this site your own, have you done something new to your vehicle or camping equipment,
or been on a trip or trail, please send this info to me and I will publish it under your name.
Our home in the bush section is about special places
out there for each and everybody to enjoy free of charge. If you use any of these
places PLEASE KEEP IT CLEAN. You can also share
or request info on our forum.
I have also added a funny photo
or story page where you can share your funnies. In our sharing
of information we got some really special articles from Slowcoach,
he really has a way with words. If you click on any of the
photos on this site you will be able to view a bigger more detailed picture.
Conservation
I am conservation conscious and believe that we can utilize our natural
resources if we take proper care and think before we drive. It is a known fact
that driving off road causes damage to the environment. I believe that all 4x4
drivers should be educated in driving techniques which can be used to minimize
this damage. Here are a few things I do when driving on sand dunes and the
beach.
Before entering
the sand engage 4x4
Deflate tyres to
0.8 bar.
Avoid wheel
spin.
Try to stay in
existing tracks.
Drive between
the low and high water mark whenever possible.
